Monday Made It ~ Class lists :)

Today was the day! With our summer days falling swiftly behind us...we finally got our class list. Of course there will be a million changes before school starts, but I thought I would show something a little fun I do as soon as I get my list.

So I am joining Tara at 4th Grade Frolics for a very simple Monday Made It.

It never fails, my principal hands my my new class list and only a few names are familiar, and I can picture even fewer faces to match those names.

So a little trick I picked up from my mentor, the amazing Mrs. Marshall, involves a little old school cutting and pasting, but I love the results.

List in hand, I find last year's school yearbook. Since I teach fourth, I make a photocopy of all of the third grade classes.

Here is Katie Byrd helping me cut
out pics of my new sweet kiddos

I go down my list, searching the copied pages for my new babies...after I find them all, I cut them out...

In this picture, the names are marked out for security
reasons...of course on my list the names remain.

arrange them in alphabetical order and glue or tape them down....

This is last year's class...this year is still
top secret until all the postcards are mailed out ;)

I now have a class list with photos...I love trying to match a name to a face before I ever get them. :) There are always a few sweet faces I don't have because like every school we lose and gain new students each year.

Don't worry, it will still take me weeks to not forget a name or two, but this sure helps me!

Well...I told you it would be simple, but that's my Monday Made It!

For those of you that have been with me a while, you might remember last year we had a lovely "book fairy" that left random books in a discard pile before school started...read all about that here and here.

Well...they are back!

There is nothing I like more than to get my hands on new books, so it doesn't hurt my feelings one bit for someone to clean out there library! Katie Byrd said today that instead of being "that crazy old cat lady," I am becoming "that crazy old BOOK lady." LOL

With that I will say good night!

Happy reading!

  2. Having pictures of your students before the school year starts is such a leg-up. I love being able to recognize and even call them by name on the first day. :)

  5. Your yearbook process is great. Or system has the kids pictures from the yearbook linked up in our student database now which is so nice. I'm a big fan of used books so I'd love a book fairy. Good luck with your new school year.

I always enjoy seeing what fellow fourth grade teachers are doing.

  6. That's a great idea! It would definitely be nice to know the students when they walk in the first day!

P.S. I wanted to let you know that you are a no-reply blogger. If you google it you can find out how to change it so that when you comment on someone's blog they can reply back by email :)
